I changed up a couple small things that I think have helped quite a bit. I still haven't figured out a good way to do SOS without it being a huge pain in my lazy ass to keep track of, so until I figure that out, the SOS will continue to take into account a team's entire schedule, rather than only the teams it has faced thus far. (FCS teams do not factor into SOS at all)
In a surprising turn, Bowling Green comes in at #16, being the only non-AQ team in the Top 25. Meanwhile, Oregon State comes in as the lowest ranked AQ team, coming in at #109. The SEC places 9 teams in the Top 25, including 6 in the Top 10. This is thanks to the fact that so many of these teams are not only 2-0, but boast very impressive SOS numbers. As conference play continues, I expect to see a much more diverse Top 25. The Big 12 also comes in strong in the Top 25, posting 7 teams. That whole conference has a total of one loss (Missouri @ Arizona State), which greatly helps the league as a whole move up the rankings. However, even with that high win percentage, the SEC takes the top spot in the conference rankings:
1 | SEC |
2 | Big 12 |
3 | Big Ten |
4 | Big East |
5 | ACC |
6 | Pac-12 |
7 | MAC |
8 | MWC |
9 | Independents |
10 | C-USA |
11 | WAC |
12 | Sun Belt |
All of the non-AQ conferences remain ranked behind the AQs, with the MAC scoring nearly half a point behind the Pac-12 (for reference, the SEC scored 2.4, while the Pac-12 scored 1.6). The SEC benefits from having an incredibly high MOV and SOS, which vaulted them well above the other conferences for this week.
Stay tuned, later this week I plan to post a "Games to Watch" list based on my current rankings.
