Week 3

A new week, and another change to the formula. I realized that I was going about margin of victory (MOV) all wrong by just adding everything up, which was unfair to teams who had played less games. So it's now an average instead of an aggregate.
And now, the rankings:

Games to Watch, Week 3

8 games to watch for Week 3 of 2011 (in no particular order):

#2 West Virginia @ #20 Maryland

#2 West Virginia travels to Maryland to take on the 20th ranked Terps who are coming off a bye week after big win against Miami (FL)

#43 Wyoming @ #16 Bowling Green

#16 Bowling Green tries to remain the highest-ranked non-AQ team in the country when Wyoming travels to try to knock them from the ranks of the undefeated.

#11 Kansas @ #27 Georgia Tech

#11 Kansas must travel to Georgia Tech where the Yellow Jackets will try to avenge their early-season loss to the Jayhawks in 2010.

#5 Tennessee @ #4 Florida

The only top 5 matchup of the week, #5 Tennessee will have all it can handle in The Swamp against #4 Florida in what should be an exciting SEC matchup.

#34 Washington @ #12 Nebraska

Washington and Nebraska meet for the third time in two years in a rubber match in Lincoln.

#19 Washington State @ #47 San Diego St.

A surprising Washington State team has the highest MOV in the nation and must travel to San Diego State where it will try to continue its dominance.

#32 Arizona State @ #13 Illinois

Coming off a big win over Missouri, Arizona State hopes to continue its impressive run with a match at #13 Illinois.

#9 Oklahoma @ #22 Florida State

#9 Oklahoma travels to #22 Florida State for one of the most exciting games of the week, matching two storied programs against each other in a game with possible national title implications.

Week 2

I changed up a couple small things that I think have helped quite a bit. I still haven't figured out a good way to do SOS without it being a huge pain in my lazy ass to keep track of, so until I figure that out, the SOS will continue to take into account a team's entire schedule, rather than only the teams it has faced thus far. (FCS teams do not factor into SOS at all)

Introduction

So, this will be my place to attempt to rank all 120 FBS college football teams (and all 11 FBS conferences, plus the Independents). The entire ranking will be completely calculation-based, so the early weeks will look little to nothing like the human polls (AP, USA Today). However, my hope is that, by the end of the year, my rankings make sense. If they don't, I'll reevaluate the way I calculate them and try it all again next year.

The rankings will come out some time after the final game each weekend (meaning that this week's rankings won't come out until sometime after tonight's Miami-Maryland game).
