This week, teams like Penn State, Kansas, and Iowa State benefit from very tough schedules, while Rutgers and Cincinnati are highly ranked due to huge wins (62 and 48 points, respectively).
I will also be ranking the conferences using the same criteria as the teams:
  1. Big 12
  2. Big East
  3. SEC
  4. Big Ten
  5. ACC
  6. Pac-12
  7. MAC
  8. MWC
  9. Independents
  10. C-USA
  11. WAC
  12. Sun Belt
Keep in mind that these rankings are computer rankings based on my own equations. Strength of schedule, margin of victory, and win percentage all weigh in on the rankings. I fully expect these rankings to change considerably as the season goes on. Once the season has finished, I will reevaluate my equations and make whatever changes I may need to make to ensure that the rankings are as accurate as possible.

  1. I would also like to point out that, as I make changes to the way I rank the teams, I will not change any rankings already posted. I have already made one change today in regards to winning or losing against FCS teams, but the rankings will not reflect that change until all of Week 2's games are played.
Currently, my biggest problem is trying to figure out SOS without making it really difficult on myself. Currently, it takes into account each team's entire schedule, even though, as of now, no team has played more than one game. This means that each team with one win has only played 0 win teams, and vice versa. As I'm trying to remove preseason bias, I don't want to give those teams that lost a "rank" based on how good they may or may not be this year, which makes making a SOS difficult, especially this early in the season. I will continue to brainstorm ways to make that work, but until then, a team's SOS will be based on their entire schedule, regardless of whether or not they have played those teams yet.
