Week 4, 2013

Another week, another strong OOC showing by the Pac-12. If you look at last year, the Big 12 had a similar OOC showing, but their 9-game conference slate hurt them in the rankings over the long run, so I expect the same will happen to the Pac-12 (as well as the gradual loss of undefeated teams each week).

Right now, the conferences are split into very distinct tiers. The Pac-12 is alone in the top tier, with the Big 12, ACC, SEC, and B1G all close together in the second tier. The AAC is plenty behind the B1G but plenty ahead of the Mountain West, so it is in a tier by itself, and the MAC is so far behind the Independents that it is also in a tier by itself, putting those conferences between them in their own tier.
